What is the perpendicular distance of the point P(-2,-7) from . . .

Question :
i) What is the perpendicular distance of the point P(-2,-7) from the y-axis.
ii) In how many parts the co-ordinate axes divides the plane? What is the name of each part?

Solution :

i) Always Remember :
The perpendicular distance of any coordinate from x-axis is equal to its y coordinate ands and the perpendicular distance of any coordinate from y-axis is equal to its x-coordinate.
Also Remember :
The distance can never be negative,  so if any of the coordinate is coming out to be negative then make sure to take its magnitude only.

So,  the perpendicular distance of the point P(-2,-7) from the y-axis will be |-2| = 2 units.

ii) The co-ordinate axes divided the plane in four equal parts and each equal part is called quadrant.
